Manuel Pellegrini has ruled out his captain, Vincent Kompany, for at least a month with a calf injury and he may not be fully fit until ‘the last part of the season’ according to the Chilean.
Kompany survived a hairy moment when his chartered plane back to Manchester skidded off the runway after the Norwich game. There were no injuries reported for the five passengers.
“We are trying what we can to recover him as soon as we can. He will be at least a month.” said Pellegini before adding: “I don’t think before two or three weeks he can be ready.”
“There is no update at this moment. We are trying different things to try and understand his injury.”
Pellegrini also confirmed the injured players for tomorrow’s Premier League game against Everton:
“Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala, Fernandinho, Samir Nasri and Wilfried Bony are injured and will not fit for the next game.
“Mangala tried to work yesterday with normality but he couldn’t.
“Theres some pain still in his muscle so maybe it’s better for him to wait a little bit more and I hope he’ll be ready soon. It’s the same for Fernandinho and Bony.
“Vincent and Nasri will be out longer.”
With two central defenders in Kompany and Mangala out, Pellegrini has denied that City are planning any transfer activity to shore up their squad for as they look to maintain pace with their title rivals Arsenal and Leicester City at the top of the league.
Pellegrini said: “We have Martin Demichelis, Nicolas Otamendi, Bacary Sagna that can play central defence, and we have Cameron Humphreys that’s a young player who had pre-season training with the squad.”
He added: “Mangala will return soon. We have a complete squad in this moment.
Pellegrini also confirmed that Yaya Toure and David Silva were in the matchday squad for tomorrow’s game but admitted that the Spanish midfielder might not play.
He said: “David Silva is 100% fit but maybe it’s a risk for him to play Wednesday and Saturday as we have two games in less than 72 hours.”
