MAN CITY YOUTH 1, SEVILLA YOUTH 1
Manchester City remain unbeaten in the UEFA Youth League following a home draw against Spanish side Sevilla.
But both sides, however, lost their 100-per-cent records in group D at City Football Academy Stadium.
Frenchman Thierry Ambrose gave City a first-half lead but a late goal from Sevilla substitute Miguel Martin rescued a point for the visitors.
City might well have won had Ambrose and Patrick Roberts, a costly summer signing from Fulham, been more clinical in front of goal.
Ambrose was involved in all City’s dangerous attacking moves in the opening half.
First he pulled a shot disappointingly wide following a headed clearance before he put City ahead in the 32nd minute.
Sevilla keeper Juan Soriano didn’t cover himself in glory coming out and failing to gather a free kick as Ambrose’s header tricked into an empty net.
Ambrose had another good chance late in the half, only to again drag his shot wide.
Both sides were guilty of glaring misses early in the second period as Sevilla’s Jose Maria Amo headed wide from six yards with the goal at his mercy while Roberts ought to have put City 2-0 ahead, but curled an effort wide when he should have found the net.
Ambrose should also have added to his tally heading weakly at keeper Soriano when well placed and then nodding wide at the far post from a Pablo Maffeo cross.
City were not troubled until 10 minutes from time when Sevilla substitute Martin found the net with a low shot across the face of goal from the right side of the box.
