MAN CITY UNDER 21 3, MAN UNITED UNDER 21 1
It was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show for newly-crowned Barclays U21 Premier League champions Manchester United lost at neighbours City in their last game of the season.
And it was sweet revenge for City who had been thumped 4-0 at Old Trafford 11 days earlier in their first meeting of the season.
City, who gave the Reds’ player a guard of honour before kick off to mark their title triumph, did it the hard way at the City Football Academy after Ashley Fletcher had given the Reds first-half lead.
But Patrick Vieira’s side produced a great comeback in the second half to turn the tables with two goals from 18-year-old Nigerian Kelechi Iheanacho and another strike by Angelino.
It had to be said that both line ups were far different to their first meeting with City only having three survivors from their earlier starting line up against the Reds who made seven changes.
A tame opening period ended with United snatching the lead just before the break when Andrew Kellett slipped his marker and provided a low cross from the left for Fletcher
City equalised 10 minutes into the second period when Iheanacho was put clear and he slotted the ball low past keeper Kieran O’Hara.
Suddenly City seized the initiative as Brandon Barker curled an effort agonisingly wide while Jack Byrne failed to find the net with a free header.
O’Hara also made a great save to deny Iheanacho before City took the lead midway through the half when Angelino found the net, albeit with the help of a huge deflection off Tyler Reid.
And City made sure of victory with nine minutes left when Iheanacho, who is off the under-20 World Cup this summer with Nigeria, struck again bending a shot from the edge of the box low to the right of keeper O’Hara.
