NEW YORK CITY FC 0, BRONDBY IF 2
New York City FC were beaten by Brondby IF in the second and final match of their pre-season tour to Manchester.
After defeating Scottish Premier League side St Mirren on Tuesday, New York found their Danish Superliga team too experienced and a far classier outfit.
The match has very much the feel of a pre-season game which it is for New York while Brondby are ending their mid-season break .
Brondby looked the sharper as their league campaign kicks off next weekend while New York don’t begin their season until early March.
The Danes took the lead midway through the opening period following an incisive passing move which ended with Martin Ornskov’s shot trickling into the net.
Former Bolton Wanderers player Johan Elmander could have doubled the lead for Brondby who added a second goal soon after the restart when Patrick da Silva’s superb diagonal pass released Ferhan Hasani who slotted home a low shot.
New York substitute Tony Taylor fired into the side netting, the closest they came to a goal.
Brondby were the more dangerous side with Elmander heading narrowly over from a free kick as they almost added a third goal.
