David Villa motivated to be an NYC great
New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis hopes that fans of the club will soon “forgive and forget” the drama surrounding Frank Lampard’s status and extended stay at Manchester City which will mean he won’t link up with his new club until July.
“It’s my dream that at some point very quickly that the fans of New York City aren’t talking about individual players.
“I’m hopeful they’ll understand it’s about a team and not about David Villa, Frank Lampard or Jason Kreis.
“I think once everyone has calmed down that everyone can forgive and forget.” said Kreis.
Lampard has already met his future team mates including former Valencia and Barcelona striker David Villa who scored the opening goal in a 2-0 win over St Mirren at Manchester City’s Football Academy on Tuesday night.
“Frank has come round to a couple of the training sessions already and met all the guys on their first night here and last night he came and had dinner with us at the hotel.
“Frank is another guy who I feel about in the exactly the same way as David Villa.
“You know that both are world class soccer players and two fantastic men that I’m so pleased to have.” said Kreis.
Villa was clearly a star draw for the fans on the night and coolly took his chance once presented and Kreis was sure he would go down in City folklore.
“I don’t think there’s any reason why David Villa can’t become one of the best players in the history of the competition.
“When you talk about players like David Villa and Frank Lampard you know what they are capable of. And so for me now it becomes a question of motivation.
“When you look at the amount of work he’s done by himself for six months in New York you know you have an extremely motivated person.” added Kreis.
