PETERBOROUGH UNITED 2, OLDHAM ATHLETIC 2
Oldham Athletic extended their unbeaten run to eight games following a 2-2 draw at Peterborough in Sky Bet League One.
Latics’ good run received its biggest test to date and they rose to the challenge to pick up a valuable point at London Road.
It was a terrific tussle with fortunes ebbing and flowing with the shared spoils probably a fair reflection of the afternoon.
Latics, without the injured Joseph Mills, recalled Connor Brown to the defence while Danny Philliskirk was preferred up front to Dominic Poleon after scoring twice off the bench last Saturday.
Latics made a great start taking a sixth-minute lead when Carl Winchester and Danny Philliskirk linked to set up Jonathan Forte who fired home his seventh goal of the season.
There was a warning for Latics when a shot from Marcus Maddison struck the upright and it was not heeded as moments later Posh equalised through a drive by Michael Bostwick from outside the box.
Forte almost regained the lead for Latics just before the break, but Posh keeper Ben Alnwick saved well with his legs.
Latics made a torrid start to the second half when Conor Washington’s shot beat keeper Paul Rachubka, but was cleared off the line by James Wilson.
Posh equalised six minutes after the restart when Maddison fired home a free kick from 30 yards after he was fouled by Liam Kelly.
They would have gone ahead but for Rachubka saving well to deny Michael Smith while Jack Baldwin had a shot cleared off the line.
Latics made it 2-2 just after the hour when Genseric Kusunga headed home a corner from Jones, his first goal of the season.
Maddison struck a post for a second time late in the game as Posh came closest to scoring the match-winning goal.
