Manchester United face a trip to Milton Keynes to play MK Dons in the second round of the Capital One Cup.
It’s been 19 years since they were involved at this stage of the competition when they lost 4-3 on aggregate to York City in September 1995.
Without European football to fill their fixture list, Louis van Gaal will target this competition as the earliest chance to win silverware in the season and as a way to qualify for European football next season via the Europa League if they lift the trophy.
Sides involved in European competition this season, including Manchester City, will enter the competition in the third round.
