Wayne Rooney may miss Manchester United’s return leg against Bayern Munich after picking up a toe injury during their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last Tuesday.
Rooney will definitely miss United’s Barclays Premier League game at Newcastle United on Saturday and manager David Moyes has already stated that he could miss the crucial second leg in Munich next Wednesday.
“Wayne’s got a badly bruised toe.” he said.
“He’s out of the Newcastle game but it could a problem for the Munich match on Wednesday too.
“He picked it up in the game the other night. We’ll get him treatment all over the weekend and see if we can speed it up.”
United are not short of talent in attacking positions, however, and if Rooney misses out there could be a chance for a striking role at the Allianz Arena for Javier Hernandez or Danny Welbeck.
Injury-hit Bayern will be missing suspended midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez plus injured Thiago Alcantara and defenders Holger Badstuber and Diego Contento although they may be able to welcome back defender Dante who was suspended for the first leg but has been suffering from injuries recently.
