Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure has thanked fans for voting for him after winning BBC African Footballer of the Year 2013 yesterday.
Toure said in a tweet: “Thank you for your votes, I feel so blessed!”
It was the first time Toure had won despite featuring in the final shortlist for the last four years. He beat Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Victor Moses, John Mikel Obi and Jonathan Pitroipa in this year’s vote.
Previous winners have included Chelsea’s Didier Drogba and Michael Essien plus Asamoah Gyan of Sunderland and former City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
