Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini admitted that he “did not want to” shake hands with shake hands with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho after the 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge to Chelsea.
Mourinho leapt into the Chelsea crowd at the final whistle following Fernando Torres’ 90th minute winner but the Chilean later revealed that they had not shaken hands.
Both managers, formerly managers of Real Madrid, have a bitter rivalry from La Liga with Mourinho succeeding Pellegrini at Real and questioning the Chilean’s track record and choice of clubs.
“I don’t expect anything different from Jose Mourinho.” said Pellegrini. “It is normal.”
For his own part, Mourinho tried to explain that he went into the crowd at the end of the pulsating encounter in search of his son and that no slight was intended.
He said: “If they feel I did something wrong, I apologise.
“This is the drama of the last minute. In other countries and cultures we shake hands before the game and that’s it.”
