Wayne Rooney answered his England critics who were questioning his commitment to the national team by posting a graphic image of his head injury on his Facebook site.
The graphic looking gash across his forehead was caused by the boot of United team mate Phil Jones last Saturday in training prior to the 1-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Jones himself was ruled out of the England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine after sustaining an ankle injury during the Liverpool game.
Rooney said: ” Some people seem to be questioning my commitment to the England squad and the fact I had to pull out of the 2 games.
“There’s nothing I would like more than to be helping the lads in the qualifiers.
“I’m sure people will see from these images the reason why I won’t be able to play.
Rooney’s England team mate Theo Walcott had earlier claimed that his head injury was “like something out of a horror film.”
The injury required stitches and is expected to sideline him from training until they are removed.
United boss David Moyes said Rooney could be out for three weeks.
