Manchester United tonight confirmed the departure of first team coach Rene Meulensteen after 12 years at the club.
Meulensteen said: “I would like to thank Sir Alex Ferguson, the owners, all colleagues, players and fans who made my time at Manchester United very special and one I will never forget. I wish everyone at this great football club all the best.”
The Dutchman had been linked to the managerial vacancy at Wigan before former Bolton Wandrers manager Owen Coyle was appointed by Dave Whelan.
Former assistant manager Mike Phelan and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele left the club last month as part of changes in the coaching staff as new manager David Moyes is expected to bring in some of his own staff from his time at Everton.
