Manchester United have confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson is to retire at the end of the season.
In a statement, the club said he will stand down after the West Bromwich Albion game on May 19 and join the football club’s board.
The 71-year-old has won 38 trophies since taking over from Ron Atkinson in 1986.
“The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time,” said Ferguson.
