Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley has been ruled out of the England squad for the forthcoming friendly games against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.
Cleverley lasted an hour of Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game in charge of Manchester United, a 5-5 draw at West Bromwich Albion last weekend, before he succumbed to a calf injury which he has failed to recover from.
Manchester City’s Jack Rodwell had already been called up as cover and will join the squad.
Revised England squad:
Goalkeepers: Ben Foster, Joe Hart, Alex McCarthy.
Defenders: Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, Kyle Walker.
Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Rodwell, Theo Walcott.
Forwards: Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck.
