The BBC reports that former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes expressed his sympathy for Carlos Tevez’ situation with Manchester City following his recent apparent ‘refusal’ to warm up in their Champions League game against Bayern Munich.
He revealed that he himself had refused to play in a weakened team that Sir Alex Ferguson had selected to play in a League Cup tie against Arsenal in 2001 which United lost to the Gunners. Scholes had been dropped for a Premier League defeat against Liverpool on the day before.
He regretted the decision immediately, apologised, and was fined the maximum possible amount but played in the next United game.
