How do you replace the legendary midfield talent of Paul Scholes who retired from Old Trafford this summer following a glittering United career laden with silverware?
Following a protracted pursuit of potential replacements including Arsenal’s Samir Nasri and Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder it would appear that Sir Alex Ferguson is placing his faith in England prospect Tom Cleverley who starred for Wigan in midfield last season and put in a superb shift at Wembley in the Community Shield last week to help defeat Manchester City.
It’s been said before that Ferguson would ‘never win anything with kids’. He famously proved them wrong that time, and if they can overcome a tough opening set of fixtures this season (Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, City and Liverpool within the first 9 games) perhaps we could see the emergence of a new Golden Generation at Old Trafford.
